Ahhh the skin type that everyone on youtube seems to have…
Oily and Combination skin types are the most infuriating types that I have seen so far…Those annoying little bumps called PIMPLES just lovvvve to pop up wherever they feel like is the most noticable spot (aka the forehead, the tip of the nose, the chin or a big one right on your cheek.) Now, there’s a difference between oily skin and combination skin though… Oily skin is when your skin actually is oily to the touch EVERYWHERE, especially the T-Zone (the forehead, nose, and chin). Combination skin, is when you are oily on your T-Zone, but dry in areas such as your cheeks, or if you have pimples with oily, yet flaking skin. I know it’s annoying to have, but hey, you gotta learn how to take care of it if you want it to go away, so here’s my tips
1. USE A CLEANSER WITH MICROBEADS!!!
It’ll help exfoliate those little blackheads that are starting to come up. To make it more effective, use a little face towel to scrub it away, but not too hard! You DON’T want to end up scratching any pimples because it could lead to the pimple bleeding, and then scarring.
2. USE A TONER!!!! USE A TONER!!!! USE A TONER!!!! (with cotton PADS only!!!! I’ll explain why in a bit…)
People ALWAYS overlook the powers of the toner. Toners are AMAZING! They can help balance out the pH, give your pores a deeper cleansing, and allow for your moisturizer to go deeper into your skin, leading to better results for your money! (it’s a great way to get more for your money, esp if you just bought that moisturizer that cost over $40!!!) Toners for people with Oily/Combination skin is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL because it will take away that excess oil that’s clogged in your pores, letting your serums and/or moisturizer do its work to “fix” your skin. By using cotton PADS with the toner (instead of cotton BALLS), you don’t waste the product, because if it’s a cotton BALL, all of the product goes to the center of the ball, and makes you waste more product. Plus, if you use a cotton pad, you get two sides…one to apply the toner, and the flip side to start scrubbing your face in circular motions.
3. Use moisturizers with NO OILS…aim for products that are alcohol free (esp if you have combination skin because alcohol will dry out your skin, and if you already have dry areas, you DON’T want to dry it out even more)
4. for those irritating pimples, try to find things with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or use something with tea tree oils …it dries out the oils in the pimples and that makes the pimples start to go down, breaks down whiteheads/blackheads, letting the “head” open to start to get rid of the dirt/oils trapped inside. To help with any redness, opt for rose water (if you wanna spend the money). The natural ingredients in the rose water helps the redness go down just a tad. Ice will help the swelling of the pimple go down. But here’s one thing…DON’T USE MAKE UP OVER IT. Make up will just make it worse, especially if you don’t do anything about it in the first place…FOR COMBINATION SKIN (or even dry skin) DO NOT ALWAYS THINK THAT SALICYLIC ACID WILL HELP!!!! Sometimes, all your skin needs is just some moisture. Try using a WATER BASED cream on it. TRUST ME it will help! your skin sometimes substitutes oils for your skin when it doesn’t get enough water, that’s why you get pimples in those flaking areas…DRINK WATER!!!!
5. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE!!!!!! Oils and dirt from your fingers can easily get trapped in your pores, so don’t forget to wash your hands throughout the day to help prevent any break outs! (don’t let others touch your face too)
6. Stay away from eating any fatty, salty, greasy foods. When it comes down to your skin, you are what you eat! Try eating more fruits and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. The vitamins in fruits will help in treating your body to a healthy cleansing and water will help hydrate your skin as well as yourself :)
These are only a few MAJOR things that I can tell you about oily/combination skin types. Hope this helps!
