Beautify You
night cream—Age: 40s-50s

40’s-50’s

This is when serums/essences come in handy PLUS a good night CREAM. By the way, serum=essence, in case anyone was confused. Using a wrinkle targeting serum will do wonders for your skin. Something like Shiseido Super Corrective Serum works well. (They claim you can see visible results within one week and major results in 3 weeks.) When you get to 40’s, wrinkle serums work towards wrinkles AND hydration AND skin elasticity, so it would make more sense to buy it in your 40s instead of 30s. Some 30’s people could have some pretty intense wrinkles (whether because it’s hereditary, due to smoking, or due to excess exposure to the sun)…so that’s why they might NEED the serum in order to get that extra help they WANT.

The mid to late 40s is also the beginning of when hormones start to go crazy, making you and your skin more cranky. (Menopause…EVERY woman will go through it…i witnessed my mom and some teachers go through it…it’s not pretty). Start using something that will help with the stress. Shiseido has something that’s great for hormonal control for your skin. They have their new NutriPerfect line. It’s specified to attack anything due to hormone changes. It has gotten many good reviews at our store. My mom’s personal favorite is the NutriPerfect eye serum. She swears by it and makes sure that its one of her best sellers, or else she just simply would not be happy. Clarins super restorative creams are also ideal for ages 40+ because it helps with hormonal changes and wrinkles too. When you get to your 50s, try switching up your toner to something that’s thicker and more hydrating. Clarins Super Restorative Wake up Lotion and Shiseido’s Nutriperfect Softener are ideal toners.

At this stage, you want to find your ideal night cream. I personally think that Shiseido comes out with amazing wrinkle attacking creams. I always witness great results on customers. However, in order to find your ideal night cream, you have to go to your beauty consultant. They will be the ones who will diagnose the best product for you.

**** I know I seem biased because I’m only talking about Shiseido and Clarins, but that’s because I know those two companies’s products the best. It’s not my place to talk about other companies’s products because I haven’t used, seen or tested any of their products. ****

Night Cream—Age: 30’s

30’s

Start using a night cream that targets towards fine lines. You want something that feels more rich and creamy in this case. When you hit your 30s, most, again MOST people who used to have oily skin don’t really have it anymore, and are left with skin that is just a little bit oily. This is why when you hit this age, pimples become a lot more scarce. Shiseido’s Bio Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream ($75) is one of the creams out there that is meant for people at age 30 to start using a cream that will help prevent and get rid of the fine lines so that in the future (aka by the time you hit your 40s) wrinkles will become scarce. It’s also been upgraded to eco-friendly because you can now recycle the plastic part. The non-plastic parts are removable!

Anyways, people tend to make the mistake that if you don’t have wrinkles, you don’t need wrinkle cream. WRONG!

The earlier you start fighting against wrinkles, the easier it is to prevent them from happening in the first place. (Hence why you tend to hear the term “wrinkle prevention” a lot in your beauty salon or beauty magazines…) Wrinkle prevention is so so so so so so soooo important. The earlier you start, the better. You can even start using wrinkle prevention products when you’re in your late 20s. THIS ADVICE IS ONE OF THE THINGS YOU REALLY SHOULD TAKE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP LOOKING YOUNG. If you wait too long (as in after you turn 40) to start fighting wrinkles, it would take a lot longer to get rid of them. The cells in your skin start to deteriorate as you age. That’s why when you’re a baby, your skin is smooth and supple. As you grow older, these skin cells start to die and by the time you hit your 40s, it’s too late. If you DO wait this long, this is when treatments come in handy such as the Radio Frequency treatment (RF) or the Bio treatment because they help stimulate the production of collagen to help bring back the elasticity in the skin. They give a lifting and smoothing result to your face. However, this isn’t something that works like a “magic eraser” in just one go. You have to be good and go back at least once a month to really get the results you’re looking for.

Eye treatments

For people in their early thirties, use the same eye cream/gel you did in your 20s. You’re still considered young at this age according to our current social media culture, and your skin is your proof. If you’re starting to see those fine lines, opt for an eye CREAM instead. You can use it at night. Eye GELS are more meant for use in the morning because it helps with the puffiness and its job is to make your eyes more awake. Try Clarins eye contour gel in the morning and then use Shiseido Brightening Eye Treatment for an eye cream to help with fine lines and dark circles at night (ideal for people who are sleep deprived). This is my actual eye treatment for day and night. I’m actually 19 years old, but since I have a very bad habit of rubbing my eyes and not sleeping, my eyes are developing very subtle fine lines and losing its elasticity. Even though I’m 19, this combination will still work for people in their early 30s.

Shiseido NutriPerfect eye serum and Clarins advanced extra firming eye contour serum/cream works wonders for people in their mid to late thirties. As you reach your late 30s, you will notice your skin around your eye area starting to develop some crows feet or maybe some lines right under your eyes. This can be due to rough make up application and skin tugging and age. These eye serums will help you so much. Start early and be faithful to your products!

You can also use serums in your 30s as well. Use anything targeted for specifics like hydration, pore minimizing, brightening, etc. You can look at my blog that I said could use for ages 18-29 http://beautifyyou.tumblr.com/post/15332446725/night-cream-age-18-29 for some of my suggestions. You can also start using wrinkle prevention serums too, but it’s not completely necessary. Serums are like vitamins. Your cleanser, toner and moisturizer are your food. As long as you remember to wash your face, use your toner and use your moisturizer every day, you will see results. If you’re lazy, I’m afraid it won’t work as well. Make this new year’s resolution to be better with your skin care routine!

Night cream—Age: 18-29

18-29

Start using a simple night cream that is targeted for just moisture. Depending on your skin type, dry/oily/sensitive, get the most basic night cream/emulsion. Emulsion is probably better because most of you probably don’t have mature wrinkles yet. (MATURE WRINKLES=DEEP LINES ON YOUR FACE THAT DO NOT GO AWAY AND ARE ACTUALLY VISIBLE FROM 5FT AWAY TO THE NAKED EYE). People tend to get a little paranoid about wrinkles when they only have the slightest fine line, so that’s why I need to clarify that. Anyways, if you do have wrinkles, opt for a cream because it is more moisturizing.

Shiseido and Clarins have really good night creams. Shiseido tends to be more rich though, so if you want something for visible wrinkles, use shiseido. If you want something for a basic cream that’s a little more hydrating that your typical day cream, use a night cream from Clarins or the Shiseido emulsions. When you go in to buy night cream, the beautician will let you know what type is good for your skin type. If it’s your first time buying a night cream, make sure you consult with your beautician to see which one is best for your skin type. It’s really important that they see your skin before you buy anything because not everyone has the same skin types.

****Oily skin types from this age range probably should avoid using a rich night cream/rich emulsion and just stick with their daily oil free moisturizers or a gel/gel-cream. You don’t want to add more oils to your face if your goal is to get rid of it.****

You could definitely use a serum too, but serums should be more specific like:

  • Whitening/brightening (anything with vitamin C/other whitening properties like arbutin) Try Clarins intensive brightening smoothing serum. It’s a light serum and people with oily skin can use it too. It works well to brighten up your complexion. $69

**If you read the review of from this link about how it’s not hydrating, that person probably got a serum that was close to expiring. It’s actually really hydrating. I’ve tested it many times on myself and applied it on customers. It’s very smooth too, so it glides on easily.***
  • Pore minimizing/Oil control (try Clarins Pore minimizing serum) If it tingles, that means its REALLY working. If it doesn’t, try exfoliating beforehand and make sure you apply toner before you apply serum. $48

  • Hydration (my favorite=Clarins hydraquench bi-serum…and I just turned 19, so it’s completely age appropriate) Dries completely after applying it. Doesn’t leave your face looking/feeling oily or greasy. Absolute favorite product of the moment. Already on my second bottle, and I used it for 6 months already. Shake it up and spray 3 times into your palm and apply it to your face. $58

http://www.clarinsusa.com/HydraQuench-Intensive-Serum-Bi-Phase/C010404016,en_US,pd.html?start=5&cgid=240

To help with your eyes, check out what type you are first. If you have dark circles/puffiness, use an eye gel. My favorite is Clarins eye contour gel. You can really feel it working and it feels so nice on your eye area (almost like a cooling sensation). $35

For eyes that are dry and sensitive, use a gentle eye cream. If you have any development of fine lines, you can try the Dr. Oasis eye cream ($48) or Clarins eye revive beauty flash ($46). From my experiences, gels work best simply because I have more concerns for dark circles, but eye creams are good too. I can’t say how well they work because it’s not part of my daily routine, but I have tried both a couple times, and I know that these eye creams will feel soothing and leave your eyes feeling more awake and hydrated. It feels reaaaaally good. A cream based eye cream is more efficient for night time though, so if dark circles is your problem (but not puffiness), try Shiseido SWL brightening eye treatment. I use it. It’s pretty good. Really good for people who are sleep deprived (aka college students/people working overtime/night owls). A little goes a long way, don’t put on too much. BUT. If you put too much on, you could end up with puffy eyes the next morning. $52.50

STEPS FOR NIGHT ROUTINE SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS

  1. Use your daily cleanser. If it’s a foaming cleanser, make sure its foamy before you
  2. Use your toner by soaking a cotton pad with the toner. Start by sweeping it all over your face from your forehead down to your neck (including your eyes). Flip the cotton pad over and repeat using a circular gentle scrubbing motion to help with removing dead skin and blackheads.
  3. Use your serum by applying it all over your face, avoiding the eye area (if you have it, if not, skip this.)
  4. Use your eye cream/gel. Use it in a tapping and smoothing motion around your eye contour using your ring finger.
  5. Apply your night cream all over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
  6. SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
Perfect for night time—AGE: <18 years old

Hey, so recently I’ve been asked the question “what should I use for night?”

Things to take into consideration:

  • AGE (<18, 18-29, 30s, 40s-50s, 60s+)
  • SKIN TYPE (normal/dry, oily/combination, sensitive)
  • SKIN APPEARANCE (lots of acne, flaking skin, loose/sagging skin, wrinkly, etc.)
  • SKIN CONCERNS (such as acne, dullness/darkness, wrinkles, large pores, etc.)

Age…<18 years old.

-Don’t need to use a specific night cream. You really should just be using a daily moisturizer (cream/emulsion/gel). If there’s no SPF, you can use it at night too. To help your eyes (dark circles/puffiness), DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. JUST SLEEP IT OFF. You young people have the benefit of sleep that helps. Don’t put it to waste. GO TO BED!!!!

Day AND Night routine for someone under 18 years old should look like this:

1.1. Cleanser: Wash your face with whatever cleanser you have. This could be a cleansing milk/cream, cleansing foam, or any other form of soap you use to wash your face with. If your skin is more DRY, opt for a CLEANSING MILK (it’s more hydrating). If your skin is OILY/COMBINATION, opt for a FOAM (the soap sucks up all the oils, but make sure its completely foamed up before you apply it to your face). Dr. Oasis has a cleansing foam that is water-based, so it doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry afterwards. If you have acne, try to go for a cleanser with micro beads, like Clarins One Step Exfoliating Cleanser or Shiseido Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam. BUT if you have OILY/COMBINATION SKIN that is SENSITIVE, a CLEANSING MILK/CREAM is the best bet for you because it’s VERY GENTLE to the skin, plus it helps remove make up easier than a foam does. (Even though I really don’t recommend kids under 18 to wear foundation… AT ALL. IT’LL JUST RUIN YOUR SKIN!) BUT this is more concerning the girls who have dance/gymnastics/any other thing that REQUIRES you to put on make up.

2. Toner: A toner is used to provide a deeper cleansing after using your daily cleanser. It reaches deeper down into the pores and inner layers of your skin, allowing a cleaner face that is now ready for your lotion to penetrate deeper into the skin. Toners are a must if you want to help get rid of incoming blackheads, clean out your pores, and get the best results from your moisturizer. To use, soak a cotton pad with the toner and then swipe it all over your face starting from your forehead, to your eyes, to your cheeks, nose, mouth/chin area, and lastly your ENTIRE neck (including the the part behind your ears). FLIP THE COTTON PAD OVER then repeat the process with circular motions to scrub away those blackheads/dead skin cells. You’ll notice that the cotton pad will turn brownish from all the dirt. Personally I think that most toners are about the same from any company, so just pick one that is suitable for your skin type and you’re good to go. My favorite one is the Clarins Water Comfort One Step Cleanser because it works as a cleanser and toner in one step. And the smell is sooooo good! It’s peach! Rose Water is something you can use as a toner too. Works as a toner and helps with redness (as long as you don’t scrub). I like the spray version from Dr. Oasis. Smells great too :) As you can probably tell, I’m the type who likes stuff that smells good lol. Also, Shiseido has toners that come in enriched for people with dryer skin or for the winter (when your skin gets dryer) which is cool too.

3. Moisturizer: Now, this could be one of 3 things depending on your skin type. If you have normal/dry skin, use an emulsion (aka a lotion). It’s lighter than a cream, and glides on easily. It’s quick and soaks in well. If your emulsion doesn’t have an SPF in it, you can use it at night too. Don’t want to use anything with SPF at night because it clogs your pores when you sleep. SPF is meant to be used as a protective layer to prevent the sun exposure from damaging your skin, so you have to wash it off before you go to sleep.

Help dry skin-Clarins Hydraquench cooling cream/gel $49. Or Dr. Oasis 24 Hour Booster $48

0112310_original_original_1.pngFor anyone dealing with acne problems, I personally think that Neutrogena is a great drugstore brand for dealing with oily skin. If you have dryer/sensitive skin, I hear aveeno is good. And if you want something for eyes, get some cold (frozen) spoons and stick it on your eyes for about 10 seconds after you wake up, release, and your puffiness should go down.

Skin care routineeee

LOOK AT ALL OF THIS CRAZY STUFF!!!!! Yes, this really is what I use on my face. I actually own more products, but I figured I’d just show you the stuff I actually use haha. Here’s the actual list starting from the right (because I forgot that pictures flip)

1. Dr. Oasis white peeling gel—my exfoliator (use once or twice a week)

2. Clarins pure melt cleansing gel—use this to get rid of whatever make up is left on my face after i use a make up wipe…im currently using the garnier one…hate it. Neutrogena wipes were the best one so far.

3. Shiseido brightening eye cream—for my dark circles

4. Shiseido purifying foaming cleanser—to give my face an extra cleansing…always foam it up with water first, then apply to face for any foaming cleanser.

5. Dr. Oasis hydrating magic water—it’s my go-to moisturizer. it’s like solidified water. absolutely amazing with my serum. :)

6. Dr. Oasis rose water—my toner! it’s a spray, and its supposed to help with redness

7. Clarins hydraquench bi-serum—most moisturizing serum that actually leaves your face non-oily. keeps it matte. i use it under my magic water.

8. Clarins (travel size) water comfort one step cleanser—perfect for a lazy day. cleanses and tones in one step. great for using it in the morning when im late for school/work. :) Smells great too!!! it’s peach! I soak a cotton pad with it and just swipe and scrub it all over my face.

9. Missha BB cream #21—i use it for the spf 42 and PA+++ (which means it acts as protective barrier against UV sun rays) that has a good coverage since its a tinted moisturizer. I like to mix it with some cream though since it’s pretty dry…

Can you believe it? I actually use all of this stuff. Of course, not all of it in one day, even though I probably should. I use probably 4 in the morning (shiseido cleanser, dr. oasis rose water, clarins bi-serum and dr. oasis magic water) when im off to work. If it’s sunny out and I’m actually gonna be outside, i’ll use my bb cream, otherwise, i’m just indoors all the time so i don’t really care. Then at night I’ll use my pure melt cleansing gel to remove make up/wash my face, use the one step cleanser to cleanse even more/tone my skin, and lastly use my bi-serum. I have a night cream, but I only use it during the winter, or whenever the heat is on in my house. I don’t like any of my night creams though…it’s too thick. I need to find one that’s a little less rich.

Other than that, i’ll be posting a video of my actual skin care routine very soon! Probably tomorrow. Good night everyone!

Make up remover

SO. Who here wears make up? Yes? No? How bout BB cream or another type of tinted moisturizer? Well. Anytime you wear make up, you must must must take it off before you wash your face. Otherwise, the build up of dirt (yes, that’s what make up is…dirt for your face) will get clogged in your pores, leading to BREAK OUTS. Trust me, I’ve experienced it before…let’s just say “Rudolph” is a common nickname for me. Anyways, make up removers can be pretty costly over time, so here’s something that comes in XXXXX-Large that you have right at home that you could use…Olive oil!!! (extra virgin)

Just soak a cotton pad, or even a tissue or paper towel into it, and then sweep it over your face. If you have mascara or heavy make up on, just hold it on your eye for about 8 seconds and then slowly sweep it across your eye. It will sweep it right off. Plus, it’s quick and easy to get. I think I have about 10 bottles of olive oil sitting in my basement because they were wedding gifts one year (VERY WEIRD, but hey, that’s how Fuzhou people are I guess lolol.) But if you feel like putting olive oil straight on your skin is too oily for you, just mix it with water and shake it up. Get an empty water bottle, and fill the water bottle with a 1:3 ratio of olive oil (1) to water (3).

Shake it up well, and now, it should be less oily, but still just as effective. Now you hopefully won’t have to sit there scrubbing at your eyes with water/soap over and over again when you’re staying over someone’s house! Just ask for some olive oil and you’re set to go! ***Note…don’t use anything other than olive/extra virgin olive oil…it is WAY too greasy and the oils are not the same. Only olive oil is gentle enough for the skin.***

But if you’re not into the whole DIY make up remover, they sell cheap stuff at drugstores. I don’t recommend using the garnier make up wipes…I just got them recently. I don’t know if it’s because they were old or something, but they’re dry and it most certainly doesn’t take off mascara well at all. Neutrogena is better, but the make up wipes are also kinda harsh on the eyes. I recommend using an actual liquid make up remover for that kind of stuff. You can also check out make up remover creams or gels. They work just as well, and actually, it’s the kind I prefer for myself. Right now I’m using the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel (retail: $32 i think…) It’s a bit pricey, but you only need a little bit, and it’s amazing. You apply it as a gel, massage it to loosen up the make up, and then rinse it off as a cleansing milk. I can go from this to toner because it really cleans everything out, and it’s not as messy because there’s no foamy soaps. Definitely my favorite make up remover/cleanser of all time. Works great and keeps my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Hope this helps!

Jen
