Night Cream—Age: 30’s

30’s

Start using a night cream that targets towards fine lines. You want something that feels more rich and creamy in this case. When you hit your 30s, most, again MOST people who used to have oily skin don’t really have it anymore, and are left with skin that is just a little bit oily. This is why when you hit this age, pimples become a lot more scarce. Shiseido’s Bio Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream ($75) is one of the creams out there that is meant for people at age 30 to start using a cream that will help prevent and get rid of the fine lines so that in the future (aka by the time you hit your 40s) wrinkles will become scarce. It’s also been upgraded to eco-friendly because you can now recycle the plastic part. The non-plastic parts are removable!

Anyways, people tend to make the mistake that if you don’t have wrinkles, you don’t need wrinkle cream. WRONG!

The earlier you start fighting against wrinkles, the easier it is to prevent them from happening in the first place. (Hence why you tend to hear the term “wrinkle prevention” a lot in your beauty salon or beauty magazines…) Wrinkle prevention is so so so so so so soooo important. The earlier you start, the better. You can even start using wrinkle prevention products when you’re in your late 20s. THIS ADVICE IS ONE OF THE THINGS YOU REALLY SHOULD TAKE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP LOOKING YOUNG. If you wait too long (as in after you turn 40) to start fighting wrinkles, it would take a lot longer to get rid of them. The cells in your skin start to deteriorate as you age. That’s why when you’re a baby, your skin is smooth and supple. As you grow older, these skin cells start to die and by the time you hit your 40s, it’s too late. If you DO wait this long, this is when treatments come in handy such as the Radio Frequency treatment (RF) or the Bio treatment because they help stimulate the production of collagen to help bring back the elasticity in the skin. They give a lifting and smoothing result to your face. However, this isn’t something that works like a “magic eraser” in just one go. You have to be good and go back at least once a month to really get the results you’re looking for.

Eye treatments

For people in their early thirties, use the same eye cream/gel you did in your 20s. You’re still considered young at this age according to our current social media culture, and your skin is your proof. If you’re starting to see those fine lines, opt for an eye CREAM instead. You can use it at night. Eye GELS are more meant for use in the morning because it helps with the puffiness and its job is to make your eyes more awake. Try Clarins eye contour gel in the morning and then use Shiseido Brightening Eye Treatment for an eye cream to help with fine lines and dark circles at night (ideal for people who are sleep deprived). This is my actual eye treatment for day and night. I’m actually 19 years old, but since I have a very bad habit of rubbing my eyes and not sleeping, my eyes are developing very subtle fine lines and losing its elasticity. Even though I’m 19, this combination will still work for people in their early 30s.

Shiseido NutriPerfect eye serum and Clarins advanced extra firming eye contour serum/cream works wonders for people in their mid to late thirties. As you reach your late 30s, you will notice your skin around your eye area starting to develop some crows feet or maybe some lines right under your eyes. This can be due to rough make up application and skin tugging and age. These eye serums will help you so much. Start early and be faithful to your products!

You can also use serums in your 30s as well. Use anything targeted for specifics like hydration, pore minimizing, brightening, etc. You can look at my blog that I said could use for ages 18-29 http://beautifyyou.tumblr.com/post/15332446725/night-cream-age-18-29 for some of my suggestions. You can also start using wrinkle prevention serums too, but it’s not completely necessary. Serums are like vitamins. Your cleanser, toner and moisturizer are your food. As long as you remember to wash your face, use your toner and use your moisturizer every day, you will see results. If you’re lazy, I’m afraid it won’t work as well. Make this new year’s resolution to be better with your skin care routine!

Night cream—Age: 18-29

18-29

Start using a simple night cream that is targeted for just moisture. Depending on your skin type, dry/oily/sensitive, get the most basic night cream/emulsion. Emulsion is probably better because most of you probably don’t have mature wrinkles yet. (MATURE WRINKLES=DEEP LINES ON YOUR FACE THAT DO NOT GO AWAY AND ARE ACTUALLY VISIBLE FROM 5FT AWAY TO THE NAKED EYE). People tend to get a little paranoid about wrinkles when they only have the slightest fine line, so that’s why I need to clarify that. Anyways, if you do have wrinkles, opt for a cream because it is more moisturizing.

Shiseido and Clarins have really good night creams. Shiseido tends to be more rich though, so if you want something for visible wrinkles, use shiseido. If you want something for a basic cream that’s a little more hydrating that your typical day cream, use a night cream from Clarins or the Shiseido emulsions. When you go in to buy night cream, the beautician will let you know what type is good for your skin type. If it’s your first time buying a night cream, make sure you consult with your beautician to see which one is best for your skin type. It’s really important that they see your skin before you buy anything because not everyone has the same skin types.

****Oily skin types from this age range probably should avoid using a rich night cream/rich emulsion and just stick with their daily oil free moisturizers or a gel/gel-cream. You don’t want to add more oils to your face if your goal is to get rid of it.****

You could definitely use a serum too, but serums should be more specific like:

  • Whitening/brightening (anything with vitamin C/other whitening properties like arbutin) Try Clarins intensive brightening smoothing serum. It’s a light serum and people with oily skin can use it too. It works well to brighten up your complexion. $69

**If you read the review of from this link about how it’s not hydrating, that person probably got a serum that was close to expiring. It’s actually really hydrating. I’ve tested it many times on myself and applied it on customers. It’s very smooth too, so it glides on easily.***
  • Pore minimizing/Oil control (try Clarins Pore minimizing serum) If it tingles, that means its REALLY working. If it doesn’t, try exfoliating beforehand and make sure you apply toner before you apply serum. $48

  • Hydration (my favorite=Clarins hydraquench bi-serum…and I just turned 19, so it’s completely age appropriate) Dries completely after applying it. Doesn’t leave your face looking/feeling oily or greasy. Absolute favorite product of the moment. Already on my second bottle, and I used it for 6 months already. Shake it up and spray 3 times into your palm and apply it to your face. $58

To help with your eyes, check out what type you are first. If you have dark circles/puffiness, use an eye gel. My favorite is Clarins eye contour gel. You can really feel it working and it feels so nice on your eye area (almost like a cooling sensation). $35

For eyes that are dry and sensitive, use a gentle eye cream. If you have any development of fine lines, you can try the Dr. Oasis eye cream ($48) or Clarins eye revive beauty flash ($46). From my experiences, gels work best simply because I have more concerns for dark circles, but eye creams are good too. I can’t say how well they work because it’s not part of my daily routine, but I have tried both a couple times, and I know that these eye creams will feel soothing and leave your eyes feeling more awake and hydrated. It feels reaaaaally good. A cream based eye cream is more efficient for night time though, so if dark circles is your problem (but not puffiness), try Shiseido SWL brightening eye treatment. I use it. It’s pretty good. Really good for people who are sleep deprived (aka college students/people working overtime/night owls). A little goes a long way, don’t put on too much. BUT. If you put too much on, you could end up with puffy eyes the next morning. $52.50

STEPS FOR NIGHT ROUTINE SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS

  1. Use your daily cleanser. If it’s a foaming cleanser, make sure its foamy before you
  2. Use your toner by soaking a cotton pad with the toner. Start by sweeping it all over your face from your forehead down to your neck (including your eyes). Flip the cotton pad over and repeat using a circular gentle scrubbing motion to help with removing dead skin and blackheads.
  3. Use your serum by applying it all over your face, avoiding the eye area (if you have it, if not, skip this.)
  4. Use your eye cream/gel. Use it in a tapping and smoothing motion around your eye contour using your ring finger.
  5. Apply your night cream all over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
  6. SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
